Oxford Street is one of the toniest areas in London. Hence, it is also the most attractive place to grab attention in the absence of a cricket match at Lords. Most cricket lovers have seen ‘streakers’ dash to the middle during some cricket matches. They were just attention seekers. But a man recently spotted almost in his birthday suit was perhaps making a political statement.

When wearing of masks in public was made compulsory in Western countries, a lot of people protested as according to them it violated their right to life. They said that breathing fresh air was their right and was part of the right to life. Hence, when this man took to wearing just a mask over his private parts and venturing out in public, he was obviously making a political statement.

The Reuters picture shows that he was walking with his head bowed and was not making any attempt to seek attention, although one does not know how one can escape attention by walking almost naked on an important street in the capital of UK.

Whatever the reason for his wearing the mask at an unusual place, Indians will connect it to the langot, the undergarment that was worn by many in the Hindi-speaking belt in the past but is now mostly worn by pehelwans in akharas. Compare the two pictures. Don’t you find an uncanny resemblance?
