After Nagrota, Pakistan Warned Against Launching Terror Attacks

The discovery of a 200-metre long, 1.5 metres wide and up to 25 metres deep tunnel across the LoC with Pakistan confirms what India has been saying for so long: that Pakistan is aiding terrorists to infiltrate into India. It was a huge success for the Indian security forces that the terrorists were intercepted and killed in Nagrota before they could strike. They have upgraded their informant network and have been on high alert ever since the abrogation of Article 370 in August last year. This has resulted in several successes where terrorists have either been liquidated or arrested.

The seriousness of the issue can be judged from the fact that even Prime Minister Modi, usually not given to commenting on such security related issues, tweeted that the Pakistani-based terror outfit Jaish e-Mohammed was involved in the operation. India has issued a strict warning to Pakistan to stop this proxy war. Since the Indian security forces are on high alert, the Pakistanis know it is difficult to send terrorists over land despite the porous border. Hence, they have taken to other routes, including tunneling. After this discovery, the Indian forces will have to be alert for alternate routes too.

There will be a spurt in terrorist activity as the District Development Council elections have been announced in J&K, with almost all parties having decided to contest the same. Since Pakistan seems to have failed in its attempts to get some of the main parties to boycott the elections to reduce their legitimacy, it will redouble its efforts to disrupt the elections. Striking terror and forcing the common man to avoid voting due to fear is an oft used weapon of the Pakistanis. But it seems that this time it is going to fail because the Indian security forces are alert and will foil its attempts and the political parties have decided to take part in the electoral process.
