Although the new show on Disney Hotstar, Hundred, is slickly made, it gives the impression of being a B-grade Bollywood movie. It is saved from complete disaster by the virtuoso performance by Marathi actress Rinku Rajguru. The storyline was promising – the teaming up of a police officer who does not want to be the poster girl of the department and takes on the establishment by ignoring jurisdictional boundaries and an ordinary, lower-middle-class girl who dreams of going to Switzerland but is informed that she has a brain tumor and will live for another 100 days at most. The police officer discovers that the girl wants to live the rest of her life on the edge and she asks her to make a list of things she wants to do while offering her a 'job' as her informer and promising excitement.

Lara Dutta as the police officer is efficient but that is about all one can say about her acting. At times it seems as if she is walking through her part. Her Saumya Shukla, with her extramarital affair with an upcoming DJ who she has employed as an informer, a secret flat, a loving husband who she does not know how to hate and a wish to show the men that women can be equally effective in the field and are not made only for desk jobs could have blown the screen. But she sadly fails to deliver.

On the other hand, Rinku Rajguru as the girl who works in the Census department, is the only earning member of the family, has a phenomenal memory, has a way with people and is not afraid of putting herself in dangerous situations, plays her part with aplomb. She is brash when needed and child-like at other times. Her eyes express everything with a preciseness one seldom sees in TV shows. Although the storyline meanders, Rinku Rajguru comes up trumps in all situations. The supporting cast plays their roles well. Mention must be made of Karan Wahi as Maddy the DJ who is both Saumya's lover and informer. He plays his part well and gets the Haryanvi accent spot on. The series is funny in parts and you can watch it if you do not have a better option.
