Laxmii Bomb is an unmitigated disaster that one cannot sit through. Despite Akshay Kumar's presence, and the attempt to recreate the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the film falls flat for the simple reason that it has too many internal contradictions, the script never rises above the mundane and most of the actors, including Akshay, give the impression that they are walking though their roles.
The story is one of revenge, with the transgender and wronged spirit angle thrown in to make a difference. A transgender and her extended family are brutally murdered by people who want to grab their prime property. The entire family is buried in the same land. The revenge takes place when the spirit of Laxmii enters Akshay's body and makes him kill, one by one, the people who wronged her.
Akshay's character is shown to be one who is against superstitions and does not believe in ghosts. He goes around saying that if he sees one in real life, he will wear bangles. But the director inadvertently promotes superstitions and babas and maulavis when he shows one such maulvi expunge the spirit from Akshay's body. The scenes where first one baba and then the maulvi do their act are repulsive and unbearable. Even the scene where Akshay drapes a sari could have been done in a much better way.
The scenes which induced a laugh in Bhool Bhulaiyaa seem contrived in this film and the actors indulge in overacting. Akshay Kumar is a much better actor and should stay clear of such dubious projects. Of the other actors, the less said the better. Kiara Advani has little to do and seems lost most of the times. Rajesh Sharma looks dazed. Ashwini Kalsekar and Ayesha Raza Mishra take overacting to its extreme. The songs are pedestrian although Burj Khalifa is a hit. Altogether, this is one film that you can easily give a miss.
