About the Author

Sunil Garodia Linus tackles things head-on. He takes sides in his analysis and it fits excellently with our editorial policy. No 'maybe's' and 'allegedly' for him, only things in black and white.

What's with Rahul Gandhi? Why is he so bent upon perpetuating the adverse (pappu) image created for him by the BJP and its sympathizers? Within a space of a week, Gandhi has twice said that he will strive to have a separate fisheries ministry in the Union cabinet, despite being informed the first time that a Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying did exist. There is also a Department of Fisheries under the said ministry and Giriraj Singh as cabinet minister is in command with two ministers of state in Sanjiv Balyan and Pratap Chandra Sarangi. In fact, Singh had replied to Gandhi when he asked for a separate fisheries ministry in a tweet in Italian to inform him about the existence of the ministry.

Perhaps the man is agitated that fishery has been clubbed with animal husbandry and dairying and wants a 'separate' ministry exclusive to fishery. But he must remember that ever since India became independent, several similar ministries have always been clubbed under a single minister for administrative reasons. Over a period of time, these ministries are delinked or new ministries are added to that head as per feedback and emergence of new or extra workload.

If Gandhi wants to delink the fisheries department from the said ministry and wants it as a separate ministry to be headed by a Cabinet minister, he should say so instead of harping that he would strive for a separate ministry as if none existed. Spreading such misinformation would do him no good and will show him in a bad light, despite his histrionics in fishing with the fishermen in Kerala. He must also remember that this is not going to help him in reversing the sagging fortunes of the Congress as people (especially as he has himself said that people in the south care more about issues) will see that he is clearly misinformed and does not learn from his mistakes.
