Beware Of Immediate Edge Investment Scam

About the Author

Sunil Garodia Linus tackles things head-on. He takes sides in his analysis and it fits excellently with our editorial policy. No 'maybe's' and 'allegedly' for him, only things in black and white.

Citizens beware! A new cyber investement scam is doing the rounds. In this scam, either PM Modi's images or Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's images and altered video is being used, along with a cloned page of the popular daily The Indian Express, to fool people into believing that the Government of India (GoI) has launched an app which will turn the small savings (starting from Rs 21000, to 'enable' even the lowest income group people to fall into the trap) of ordinary citizens into huge monthly income.

The newspaper page and the article published on it look disturbingly real, as the tags and the style of writing is clearly copied from real articles in the newspaper. But that is expected as scammers have now become very 'talented' in doing these things. But when you open the email, it does not take you to the newspaper website. It takes you to a scammer-generated page, which is the first giveaway. The promises made will excite those who are greedy and have not invested much in their life, as such high returns cannot be realistically expected in the market. But that is the point - this scam works on greed and adds an element of authority by saying it is from the GoI and using pictures and altered videos of political leaders. Press Information Bureau of India has already issued a fake alert for the video.

But there are tell-tale signs of the scam in the copy of the article and the text on the images. For one, 'dividend' is spelled 'divident' in one of the images. Then, the email that arrives in your inbox will be from an unknown entity, confirming that it is probably a scam. Finally, the urgency on the page - first 1000 applicants, only 15 places left etc. are also confirmed pointers of a scam.

Please be careful and do not let your greed overcome prudence. Do not fall into such traps laid by these rogues.
