As Mumbai Indians meet Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020 finals today, another successful edition of the premier T20 cricketing tournament will come to an end. Although MI has beaten DC rather comprehensively on all three occasions that they have met in the current tournament, playing in the final is another matter altogether.

Since losing to MI in the qualifier, DI seem to have got their act together and did well to edge out SRH in the second eliminator. In terms of quality, there is little to choose between the two teams as they are well matched, except the fact that MI have more allrounders who can wield the long handle very effectively. Hence, MI bat deeper than DI and that counts in a close match.

DC will have to learn from their three losses. Their top order, especially Shikhar Dhawan, has to fire since Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw are having a poor run with the bat after the half way stage. Similarly, Rishabh Pant has failed to live up to his billing and cuts a sorry figure every time he comes out to bat. While R Ashwin has been weaving his magic well, Kasigo Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Daniel Sams will have to bowl much tightly if they wish to rein in the MI batsmen. In the last match, they had not bowled to a plan and that cost them the match.

As for MI, they have prepared well and have played every match according to a plan. They have also won the tournament four times and know how to deal with big match pressure. But every final is a different match and past performances do not matter. Although MI have the firepower to demolish DC once again, in the final they will have to deal with a team that would come out firing on all cylinders in a bid to lay its hand on the IPL trophy for the first time. A cracker of a match is on the cards.
