New Cyber Crime: Duping People By Offering Fun And Money

Remember Jamtara, the region in Jharkhand that became famous for being a hub of cyber crime. A serial by the same name was also aired on OTT which showed how unemployed youngsters were sucked into this 'trade' by influential gangs. Now you can forget Jamtara. For, another, bigger, cyber crime hub has emerged in the Mewat region of north India which runs through Rajasthan, Haryana and UP, very close to the NCR.

First, there were sextortion crimes emanating from the Rajasthan part of this region. Gangs would download nude pictures and videos of girls from the internet and honey trap people into uploading their nude pictures and videos with the promise of the girls baring all after that. Then they would extort money from these unsuspecting people by threatening to expose the pictures to their families or upload them on the internet. It was a huge scam that spread far and wide, including foreign countries.

Now, another gang in Nuh in Haryana (the Mewat district was renamed Nuh), which also falls in this region has come up with another get-rich-quick scheme to entice unsuspecting people to part with their money. This gang promises lakhs to people "for impregnating childless women". The gang posted pictures of fake women, who they claimed were childless and desperately willing to get pregnant, on Facebook accounts and advertised handsome payment for the person who could do that. Once a person shows interest, the gang takes down his details and asks him to pay sums running into thousands of rupees for registration and legal charges to facilitate the transaction. Once the person paid the amount, they broke all communication with him.

The Nuh police have already arrested two persons, Ezaz and Irshad, for running the scam. A large number of SIM cards, registered in Maharashtra and Assam, were recovered from them. They have been booked under various sections of the IPC and remanded to judicial custody.
