People are talking about the policy being followed by Mamata Banerjee on the attacks on leaders of her party. People say she was at her loudest when her nephew Abhishek was attacked. She then claimed that the BJP had done it and they wanted to kill him. She was also loud when Kalyan Banerjee and other senior leaders were attacked. But, people say, her muted response to the daily occurrences of her local-level leaders being greeted with rotten eggs and cow dung is extremely surprising, more so when she talks about rebuilding the party.
People say who is going to trust a leader who speaks only for her trusted aides and forgets the real people who built the party on the ground?
People also say that Didi has failed to realize that what is happening in Bengal now is not - it cannot be, given the scale and people involved - being orchestrated by the BJP. People say it is the pent up anger of the ordinary people who were subjugated and looted at the same time by TMC cadre, backed by the leaders. People say that the local leaders being pelted with eggs are the ones who diverted relief material or took 'cut' money from the people.
People say that with most of her party gone, despite her street fighter image, it will be very difficult - even impossible - for her to rebuild the party into what it was. People say that even if it continues to exist, it will be only in name and will be a pale shadow of itself.
People also say that Mamata Banrejee had become Dhritarashtra of Mahabharata and remained blind to all the intimidation, corruption, rapes and looting of people going on under her watch. They say that what happened to her and the party was bound to happen once the fear vanished. People remind her that as you sow, so shall you reap.
