About the Author

Sunil Garodia Holding an extreme view and carting the ball out of the park is what interests him most. He is a hard hitter at all times. Fasten your seatbelts and read.

The 2023 IPL has thrown up many Indian heroes - some old and some new. But the one player who has performed consistently well is the unheralded Rinku Singh of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Although he has been around for a few seasons and with KKR since 2018, the 25-year-old UP player got to play all matches this season and showed his mettle wonderfully.

The statistics speak for themselves - he scored 474 runs with four fifties at an average of 59.25 and a stunning strike rate of 149.53. Of these, 305 runs came in chases at an enhanced strike rate of 153.50. He remained not out 6 times with the highest score of 67 not out.

He made heads turn and people started taking notice when he did the almost impossible feat of scoring 29 runs off the last over against table topper Gujarat Titans by hitting five towering sixes to win the match for KKR. He could have repeated the same against LSG but his heroics in the last over were in vain as KKR lost the match by just one run.

His stunning performances and consistency have made experts predict that he is sure to find a place in the Indian team sooner rather than later. From Gautam Gambhir to Sreesanth to Tom Moody, everyone is convinced that he is the best finisher in the shortest format and needs to be in the Indian team.

Apart from the obvious talent and skill in the shortest format of the game, the biggest plus is that Rinku possesses excellent temperament and unfazed by the situation, goes about scoring runs at a scorching pace. He is a special talent and is sure to serve India for long.
