The BJP must instruct its motormouths not to target actors who are Muslims. First, it creates an impression that some of those associated with the party do not think that Muslims are Indians. Second, it goes against Prime Minister Modi’s avowed target of sabka saath, sabka vikas. Painting Muslims, including actors who have been serving the film industry and entertaining us for so many years, as deshdrohis is abominable and should be condemned strongly. The usual response of the party in rebuking the offender and saying that it is not the party view will no longer suffice. For, that stand is not yielding results and the attacks are continuing. So the party must think of penalizing the offenders in a way that acts as a deterrent.

The latest attack on Shahrukh Khan is especially vile. By asking people to boycott Raees, Kailash Vijayvargiya has done a great disservice to his profession. For, he has taken sides in two films releasing on the same day. The box office will decide and politicians must refrain from making such comments.

The BJP has strangely said that Vijayvargiya was indulging in wordplay to condemn the rich who hoard black money. The offending tweet went "Those Raees (rich) who are not loyal to the country are of no use. We should all support a Kaabil (able) patriot." Now anyone can see that it was a direct attack on the loyalty of SRK. Does SRK need to prove his loyalty towards the country to people like Vijayvargiya? Or to anyone else, for that matter? The BJP is compounding Vijayvargiya’s mistake by not punishing him. Also, it is encouraging others to do the same.

Even if we go by the BJP explanation, why drag the name of SRK’s film? Is he not a law abiding citizen of the country? Has he not been among the highest individual tax payers in the country year after year? Does not the success of his films prove that he is loved and his work is appreciated by millions of his countrymen? Is he found to be hoarding black money? Then why target him? Just because he is Muslim? Finally, when Vijayvargiya or anyone in the BJP will see the film, they will realize that Raees is not about money, it is about having the heart in the right place. The real raees is the one with a large heart, which people like Vijayvargiya sorely lack. Vijayvargiya, it seems, is neither raees nor kaabil.
