After Friday Namaz, Right-Wing Groups Target Christmas Events In Gurugram

With right-wing organizations hyperactive in Gurugram, the city has become the intolerance capital of India. On Christmas Day, it was proved that the malaise has spread to the entire district and is slowly spreading to the entire state.

Miscreants, identifying themselves as members of the Dharam Jagriti Manch (and such outfits can be found in almost all towns and cities in India now), entered the school House of Hope in Patuadi, which is one of the four sub-divisions of Gurugram district, and disrupted a Christmas programme being held there. They said that the event was organized to 'brainwash' children and prepare them for 'conversion'. The miscreants snatched the mic and shouted Jai Shri Ram slogans. The school has decided not to lodge a police complaint. In a similar incident in Kurukshetra, 240 kms from Pataudi, a Christmas event was disrupted by miscreants who later played the Hanuman Chalisa over the music system arranged by the organizers of the event.

In Gurugram, right-wing outfits have been carrying out protests every Friday against the holding of jumma namaz in the open for the last few months. The city administration had previously designated around 30 spots where such namaz could be performed. But it later withdrew the permission when these outfits protested vigorously and resident's welfare associations (RWA) objected. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar even said that namaz in the open cannot be tolerated, making these outfits bolder.

It is dangerous and sad that a few self-styled 'guardians' of the Hindu religion are targeting minorities and inciting the common people to do the same. Practising of one's religion peacefully is a basic human right and also guaranteed by the Indian constitution. Further, Hinduism does not preach intolerance. Those who indulge in such acts are neither true Hindus nor true Indians. They are hate mongers and administrations all over India must treat them as such and must not allow them to carry out their divisive agenda.
