When a student from a local residential school is found murdered, stabbed with a knife and left hanging on a tree, the legend of the deadly Masaan is resurrected in the idyllic hill town of Rudrakund. Masaan is a masked character who used to kill people in the surrounding jungles till the local politician Money Ranaut (Manu Rishi Chaddha) conducted a havan to banish him from the town many years ago. Masaan's return scares everyone in the town and Ratna (Richa Chaddha), the crooked police officer tasked with cracking the case is also confused.
But when Jayant Sir (Ronit Roy) refuses to believe the legend and starts investigating the murder of the student he was mentoring, things start getting out of hand. All clues point to Vayu Ranaut (Nakul Roshan Sahdev), the uncontrollable son of the local MLA, but things are not as simple as they seem. The students are addicted to drugs supplied to them in the form of candy, made at Money Ranaut's factory and controlled by Vayu. The girls are sexually molested and the mark of Masaan is left at the back of their neck.
The story is about how Jayant and Ratna (after a change of heart) go after the bad guys. But their investigation goes off-track when their prime suspect Vayu is also murdered. Who is behind the rapes and murder? Who is spreading terror in the small town and for what? Both Jayant and Ratna have their own past. While Jayant lost his daughter to an overdose of drugs and his wife is unable to come to terms with the loss, Ratna has shot dead her abusive husband. They fight the ghosts of their past and join forces to track down the dreaded Masaan.
Candy (streaming on Voot) is an 8-episode whodunit that is fast paced with new twists in each episode that keep viewer interest intact. But it could have been written better. There are some loose ends that jar. The acting is also not consistent. While Ronit Roy looks lost sometimes, at other times he is in his elements. Richa Chadha comes into form only in the latter half. It is Nakul Roshan Sahdev who impresses the most as Vayu. Manu Rishi Chaddha is also good as the local bahubali.
