The new crime thriller on MX Player, Chakravyuh, starring Prateik Babbar as Inspector Virkar, is yet another story figuring a trigger-happy hothead police officer who breaks rules to solve crimes. The only difference is that the story weaves in high tech, internet and crypto-currency accounts, along with hackers, ethical and otherwise, to make it modern. So, instead of crime dons operating out of ghettos and using thugs to silence people, we have a gang using rape drugs on college girls to video tape them during sexual acts and then blackmail them for money and also to serve clients.

But when murders start happening, Virkar comes into the picture. Someone starts murdering people and taking away their body parts. Hence, bodies start landing up on the police post-mortem table with either the penis or the eyes or the fingers gone. When CCTV footage and witnesses say that these are being committed by a girl, Virkar suspects a college girl who was a victim of the gang doing so to take revenge. But it is not so simple. As Virkar fights a police inquiry into his excesses, gets suspended and still pursues the case, he finds out that there is a high tech gang behind the crimes. Every time the police think that they have closed the case, something new crops up. Virkar doesn’t give up and catches the mastermind in the end.

Prateik Babbar looks good and acts well as a police officer who doesn't have time for the niceties. He shoots first and asks questions later and that lands him in trouble with the department. The police hacker, interestingly called IP, is in love with him and keeps showing him her tattoos. Simran Kaur Mundi is also impressive in her role of a counselor. Other actors too are good in their roles. Chakravyuh is good but it could have been much better. Nevertheless, since it runs for only eight episodes, it does not drag and the story moves at a good pace, although the pizza-gobbling police doctor might irritate you.
