Crackdown (now streaming on Voot) follows in the fine tradition set by Special Ops and The Family Man. It is a thriller that has DO, a special covert unit of RAW about which not many are aware. It does its work by eliminating threats to the country before they actually become a threat. It is headed by RP, or Riyaj Pathan, a battle-hardened agent who was captured and tortured by the Pakistanis. Their work is to get intel about possible terror attacks and foil them. They report directly to the RAW chief.

But when a woman dies by throwing herself off the first floor balcony during an operation to kill terrorists and a pendrive with the name of all RAW agents is found on her, matters get messy. The RAW chief remembers seeing a girl with an uncanny resemblance to the dead woman and the DO embarks upon a mission to replace the Mumabi girl as the dead terrorist in a bid to infiltrate the terrorist organization. When she is reluctant to work for them they frame her brother in a drug case and force her to agree. They train her and put her in place of the dead woman. But things take a nasty turn with a mole within the organization scuttling their plans. The fast paced story takes many unexpected turns to keep the viewer hooked and the climax leaves one yearning for more (season 2 is obviously in the works).

The acting is top notch with Saqib Saleem leading the pack with a restrained performance that brings out the fear, the anguish and the bravery in equal measures. Shriya Pilgaonkar is not far behind as the girl who is forced by circumstances to replace a dead terrorist. Director Apurva Lakhia keeps things moving at a fast pace and throws in many twists to carry the story forward. The training scenes and the fight scenes look authentic and add to the flavor of the thriller. Watch it if you have time in hand as leaving it midway would be difficult.
