The Income Tax department has a stern warning for those who are yet to link their PAN with their Aadhar. After pushing back the deadline several times in the past, the IT department has said that the PAN of those who fail to link it by 31st March 2020, the latest deadline, will become invalid. That would mean that they will not be able to conduct any financial transactions where providing PAN is mandatory.

It is surprising that there are still people who have not yet linked their PAN and Aadhar. It is a simple procedure and hardly takes 5 minutes in total provided one's valid mobile number is linked to Aadhar. The first step one needs to take is to confirm whether one’s PAN and Aadhar are linked. If anyone is in doubt regarding this, he or she should check it immediately at https://www1.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-FilingGS/Services/AadhaarPreloginStatus.html

After filling in the details on the page, a screen will come up that will inform you whether your PAN is linked to your Aadhar or not. If it is linked, you do not have to do anything further. But if it is not, you will have to go to the efiling website of the IT department at https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/home and log in to your account. If your PAN and Aadhar are not linked, usually a pop-up will be displayed immediately on logging in asking you to link them. Fill in the details and wait for the OTP from Aadhar. Fill in the OTP and you are done. But if the pop-up does not spring up, you can go Profile Settings tab and from there to the Link Aadhar button and do the needful.

Do this now if you have any doubt as you may forget it later and your PAN might become inoperative after 31st March 2020.
