High (streaming on MX Player) is high on entertainment value. Two stories move simultaneously. In the first, a group of doctors go to a forest to find a plant which has amazing properties to cure many ailments, including addiction to psychedelic drugs. They test it and find it effective. But a mole in the team leaks out the news to a pharma company and the entire team is wiped out. But Dr Roy, the head of the team, manages to send his research papers to his wife. This happens in the 1970s and the story plays out at the beginning of each episode.

The main story revolves around a drug addict Shiv who is taken to a research clinic and rehabilitation centre after an overdose. There he is given the same drug that was being researched in the 1970s. He is transformed. Being a street smart operator with connections to drug dealers, he manages to convince the team of doctors (one of whom is the son of Dr Roy who was killed earlier) to sell the drug in the market to save the rehab centre property that has been mortgaged with a bank.

Once they start selling the drug, which they name Magic, the entire system starts chasing them. From drug dealers to crooked politicians, from the media to policemen and the pharma companies, all see Magic a threat to their hold over their respective constituency. The team is hounded, chased, assaulted and kidnapped but they manage to overcome all odds to live another day,

Akshay Oberoi as Shiv is cool and effective as the drug addict who takes on the drug syndicate to raise money for the rehab centre after being convinced that Magic has the power to transform the lives of drug addicts. Mrinmayee Godbole shines as the media presenter who tries to uncover the truth behind Magic. Shweta Basu Prasad is wasted in the role of a doctor. Kunal Naik gives a riveting performance as drug lord Munna. Ranvir Sheroy is also very menacing as the killer let loose by a pharma company head. The series is well written by director Nikhil Rao and his co-writers Nishant Goyal and Emil Thomas and there are not too many boring moments. Things move at a fast pace till the climax in which a shot is fired and the viewer is left to think about who was killed till the second season takes the story forward. Watch it for good storytelling and strong performances.
