The Nightingale of India is no more. Lata Mangeshkar passed away in a Mumbai hospital at 92 years of age. Her condition worsened further yesterday evening and she was put on ventilator. She was suffering from pneumonia and had also tested positive for Covid.

The Centre has declared a two-day national mourning. Prime Minister Modi will attend her state funeral that will be held at Mumbai's Shivaji Park.

In a career spanning six decades, Lata Mangeshkar sung thousands of melodious songs. No other singer could match her range. Her playback songs were filmed on much younger heroines but the voice matched perfectly. Such was the magic of her voice.

Tributes started pouring in from all over the world. All the big names of the film industry have started visiting her house to pay their last respects.

Her patriotic song "Ai mere watan ke logon" (which moved the then Prime Minister Pandit Nehru to tears) is compulsorily played at all public events on Independence Day, Republic Day and other patriotic functions.

The melody queen will live in the hearts of music lovers through her evergreen songs.
