MNS Vandalism: Perfect Way To Lose Support Of The People

Are politicians and their kin above the law? Is a government official in the wrong to ask them to follow the rules? Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's son Amit was travelling on the Samruddhi eway in Maharashtra on Sunday morning when his car was stopped at the Sinnar toll plaza as the officials detected a blacklisted Fastag for the vehicle. He was asked to wait as the officials looked into the matter.

But waiting was an insult for 'his highness' and his cohorts. They allegedly first made an official apologize to Amit and later ransacked the toll plaza for having the 'temerity' to stop their cars. Seven MNS workers have been arrested in the matter by the Nashik rural police.

Does the MNS think that such hooliganism is the way it will do the navnirman (reform or redevelopment) of Maharashtra? The officials who stopped the cars did not have any personal grudge against Amit Thackeray. They were just doing their job. Why should a politician or his/her kin demand special treatment? But so puffed up are these people in their belief that they are 'privileged' that it hurts their massive egos to be treated like 'commoners'.

MNS must realize that it will lose whatever little support it has (it won just 2.25% of the votes and just one seat out of the 101 it contested) in the state with such tactics. For, muscle power can take you only thus far and no further.
