People are talking about Uttarakhand chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat and his "shock" at seeing boys and girls in ripped jeans and girls 'flaunting' their knees. People say that Rawat has no right to make adverse comments on people for their choices. People say that even if Rawat is unaware of the fashion trend that has made ripped jeans common attire for most youngsters, he should at least respect the choices made by these youngsters.
Further, Rawat also talked about encountering a woman on a flight who was a mother of two children and was wearing ripped jeans. He wondered what kind of sanskar she would give to her children. Mr Rawat should know that sanskar is in-built and dressing sense has nothing to do with it. People say it is abominable to question someones values just based on what they wear. They say it is wrong to say all those in kurta-pyjamas or sarees or salwar-suits have better sanskar than those in Western dresses.
In any case, who is Rawat to decide what youngsters will wear? People say that this glare on how people dress and the comparison between native dressers and those who wear Western dresses for their values is anti-social. When society as a whole does not have issues with ripped jeans, why should self-styled guardians of morality question the youngsters on their choices?
