The film industry's most respected awards, the Filmfare awards, which are now given for films in all regional languages apart from Hindi, were handed out for Hindi films and performances in 2022 on Thursday in a glittering ceremony at Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai. The awards were hosted by Salman Khan, Ayushmann Khurrana and Maniesh Paul. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi was a clear winner in the popular and technical awards, while Badhai Do and Vadh caught the eye of the critics.

While Gangubai Kathiawadi got the Best Film, Best Director (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) and Best Actor (Female) for Alia Bhatt and awards in best costume design, best dialogue, best background score, best cinematography, best production design, Badhai Do got Rajkumar Rao the award for Best Actor (Male) and other awards for Sheeba Chaddha (Best Actor (Female) in a supporting role), Best Story and Best Screenplay. It also won the Crtitics Award for the Best Film. Brahmashtra Part One: Shiva got technical awards like Best VFX and Best Sound Design, apart from being awarded as the Best Song (Kesariya) for Amitabh Bhattacharya and the Best Music Album for Pritam. Sanjay Mishra won the Critics award as the Best Actor (Male) in Vadh and Tabu (Bhool Bhulaiya 2) and Bhumi Pednekar (Badhai Do) shared the same in the Female category.

Ever since the critics' awards were introduced, it is good to see that some meaningful movies which normally do not fare well at the box office (Badhai Do was an exception) are being recognized and celebrated. A small film like Vadh will get a lot of deserving viewership after Sanjay Mishra's amazing acting effort has been awarded. The awards, while bowing to the popular choices, are instrumental in celebrating the work of people who do not always work for commercial success.
