Reprehensible: The Kabr Slogan By The Congress

It was unacceptable the way Congress leader Pawan Khera was taken off a plane and arrested at Delhi airport. This correspondent had, in an article yesterday, strongly condemned the hasty arrest and the invocation of draconian sections of the IPC in the FIR. The article also strongly condemned what Pawan Khera had said about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

But to compound the mistake Pawan Khera made by calling Prime Minister Modi "Narendra Gautamdas Modi" instead of the correct "Narendra Damodardas Modi" (people in some state, especially Gujarat and Maharashtra, use their father's name as their middle name) and thus alluding that embattled industrialist Gautam Adani was Modi's father, the Congress leaders accompanying Khera on the place got off and started protesting on the tarmac by raising slogans such as "Modi teri kabr khudegi" (Modi your grave will be dug).

That was absolutely gross and not acceptable by any means. Whatever political dispute one might have and whatever highhandedness one might be protesting, wishing for the death of an opponent, political or otherwise, (for what else will someone's grave will be dug) is totally unacceptable. The Congress leaders were trying to show that the government of Prime Minister Modi is autocratic and arrests people illegally. But in doing so, they laid themselves bare to the charge of being uncivilized and uncultured.

The Congress knows that almost nine years of personal attacks on Modi have not worked for them. Yet, led by Rahul Gandhi, they are still persisting in attacking him. But the kabr slogan was a new low for the Congress. It must desist from raising such uncouth slogans. Prime Minister Modi used the slogan to slam the Congress and said that while they said 'Modi teri kabr khudega' the people are saying 'Modi tera kamal khilega'.
