In an absolutely delightful and awesome display of batting, India's U-19 captain Yash Dhull and his deputy, Shaik Rasheed, pulverized the Australian bowling to score 204 runs for the third wicket and take India to a winning position in the semifinal of the U-19 World Cup being played in the West Indies. Later, the Aussies were bowled out for 194, handing a 96 run comprehensive win to the Indians.

Dhull scored a run-a-ball 100 with 10 fours and one six while Rasheed was unfortunate to be out for 94 in 107 balls with 8 fours and one six. The duo came together when India were in a spot of bother being 37 for two wickets in the 13th over. Both the players were forced to miss some games in the league stage as they contacted Covid but recovered in time for the playoffs to guide India to a win in spectacular manner.

When the Australians batted, the Indian bowlers made sure that partnerships did not develop. Except for a brief second wicket stand of 68 runs between Campbell Kellaway (30) and Corey Miller (38), the Aussies kept losing wickets at regular intervals and it never looked like they would be able to chase the target. Although number five batter Lachlam Shaw scored 51, the fall of wickets at the other end took the wind out of the Australian chase.

India are now through to their fourth consecutive World Cup final and will play England who beat Afghanistan by 15 runs in the other semifinal. With Dhull and Rasheed hitting form at the right time and with the Indian bowlers giving nothing away, this would be one final India would be hoping to win, unless England come up with something special on the day. The superb performance by the colts once again proves that cricket is thriving in India at all levels (courtesy the BCCI) and these youngsters will fortify the already strong bench strength of the Indian cricket team in the days to come.
