Rahul Dravid is all set to be the head coach of the Indian senior cricket team after the T20 World Cup. His first assignment will be the New Zealand series. With him, his trusted lieutenant, Paras Mhambrey will be the new bowling coach. Both of them have been appointed for two years. The new fielding coach is yet to be decided.

As the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Dravid and Mhambrey have been instrumental in grooming youngsters and providing India with a bench strength that is the envy of the cricketing world. Some of these youngsters have already made it to the senior squad and most others will get their chance soon. Hence, it makes sense to have Dravid as the head coach as he knows them well and will now work to take Indian cricket to new heights.

In his years as a coach, Rahul Dravid has shown exemplary work culture and acumen to train youngsters and hone their skills. Most of his trainees have improved their game tremendously and have made a mark in all forms of cricket being played in the country. It was time Dravid was given the responsibility of making the senior team better.

But this puts the BCCI in the difficult situation of finding Dravid's replacement at the NCA. Although there is no dearth of good coaches in India, filling Dravid's shoes will be a tough task for the next director. This is a critical assignment as the NCA is the cradle from where most of India's future prospects come out and give it the heft necessary to be the best in the world in all formats of the game.
