Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant met with a serious accident on way to his hometown in Roorkee from Delhi. Luckily for him, he escaped with minor injuries and burns except for a serious injury to the ligament in his knee. He was rescued by a bus conductor. Pant is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dehradun.  Pant is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dehradun. He was driving a Mercedes GLE which climbed a divider and burst into flames as Pant lost control as he, by his own admission, dozed off.

Concern poured in from all over the world and even Prime Minister Modi, despite the loss of his mother on the day, spoke to Pant's family and inquired about his health while wishing him speedy recovery on Twitter. BCCI secretary Jay Shah also spoke to the doctors at the hospital and later the BCCI announced that it will take over the treatment of the ligament tear. Pant's injury comes just before India is to take on Australia in a four-Test series that will be vital to its chances to make the ICC Test Championships finals.

People are focusing on two things after this unfortunate accident. One is the fact that whether people should continue driving if they feel sleepy or drowsy. Ideally, Pant should have pulled over at an appropriate place and taken a nap before continuing to drive. But it seems that since he was quite near to his destination, he took the chance and paid the consequences. The other fact is that why a top-end car like the Mercedes GLE, which comes with emergency brakes, met with an accident like this. Further, what malfunctioned that the car burst into flames? These are questions that need answers despite the fact that it was driver error that caused the accident.
