On the triple Sunday, India played Zimbabwe last. Before that, in a huge upset, Netherlands knocked out South Africa from the World Cup and then Pakistan beat Bangladesh to reach the semifinals. India also booked its spot due to the Netherland win but it needed to beat Zimbabwe to top the group. That India did in style as first K L Rahul and then Suryakumar Yadav ensured that India had enough runs on the board and then the bowlers made mincemeat of the Zimbabwe batters. India won by a huge margin of 71 runs and topped the group with 8 points and a net run rate of +1.319.

The match was marked by a stupendous display of audacious power hitting by the in-form Suryakumar Yadav. The way he took the Zimbabwe bowlers to the cleaners in the last 5 overs showed why he is considered the most dangerous batter in death overs and the most destructive finisher around at this point of time in the shortest format of the game. Yadav audaciously lifted deliveries from outside the offstump over the fine leg or square leg fence to get maximum runs. The way he places his body for the shot even before the ball is delivered and then the way he middles the ball to execute the shot is a treat to watch. But it goes with a warning - these 'stunts' are performed by an expert and should not be tried by others. Yadav's repertoire of unconventional shots cannot be tried with the same results by other batters.

When Zimbabwe batted, the Indian bowlers did not allow them the luxury of width to play their shots. Hampered by tight line and length and good movement, the Zimbabwe batters were forced to make unforced errors and lost their wickets. The in-form Sikander Raza was the only batter who showed some resolve but he did not find support at the other end. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 115 and India will now play England in the semis on Thrusday, November 10.
