In a scintillating and dominating performance, Indian u-19 girls beat England by 7 wickets to win the U-19 T20 World Cup, the first ICC trophy which Indian women have won. Indian bowlers totally decimated the English batters and bowled them out for just 68, the lowest ever score in an ICC trophy final (both men and women) to make it a one-sided final. The English batters could not negotiate any of the Indian bowlers with pace sensation Titas Sadhu (2 for 6) and Archana Devi (2 for 17) being particularly outstanding. All the other Indian bowlers were also among the wickets. This was England's worst ever performance in this format.

India lost just one match in the tournament, the Super Six encounter against Australia by 7 wickets. In all other matches, it displayed dominating performances to beat the opposition. In the group stage, India beat South Africa by 7 wickets, UAE by 122 runs and Scotland by 83 runs. In the Super Six, it lost to Australia but beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to make the semifinal. In the semifinals, it beat New Zealand by 8 wickets and then beat England by 7 wickets to win the tournament. Shweta Sehrawat was the top batter for India with 297 runs at an average of 99 (she remained not out 4 times). She scored 3 fifties with a strike rate of 139.43. Prashavi Chopra was the most outstanding bowlerfor India taking 11 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 7 runs.

Coming just before the start of the Women's Premier League (WPL), the World Cup triumph will redouble the interest in women's cricket in India and will make the WPL a rousing success. Indian women have been performing well at all levels and just an ICC trophy was missing from the wardrobe. These golden girls have brought that home. Their triumph also proves that like in men's cricket, women's cricket in India is also blessed with solid bench strength which is going to serve the team's interest in future. These youngsters have done the nation proud.
